Arriving in Ičići, the first thing
that catches the eye, apart from the view of Kvarner Bay, are the anchors on
the beach. You may wonder how and when they gor there.
The anchors were the idea od
Captain Igor Žiganto. In 1997., with the help of his fellow residents and
friends, he place dan Admiralty Anchor and two others used on merchant ships on
Ičići Beach. Thea im was able to make the beach more attractive.
The Amiralty Anchor, which is
located at the beginning of the beach as you aprproach it from the direction of
ACI Marina, it is thin anchor with two curved arms and an upper horizontal
stock that was used on sailing ships to alow the anchor to dig into bottom
better. Iti s believed to be over 100 years old.
The fourth, ˝hidden˝ anchor, was
placed here a year before, in 1996. It is located in the sea to secure the chains for boats moored in the small
harbour of Ičići, which was originally bulit as result of the joint efforts of
the locals, also on the initiative of Captain Žiganto, as testified to by the
commemorative palaque on the promenade in the harbour.
Over time, the anchors become a
symbol of Ičići.
