During
November, Yacht Club Croatia has organized three sailing regattas in sea area in front of Ičići. Regattas were also suported by Tourist board Ičići.
First one was Croatian Open Championship in the snipe class that
was held from November 10 to 12.
This is the first time that Yacht Club Croatia organizes a
regatta for the Šljuka (snipe) class. The goal is to popularize this class
among younger sailors, but also to provide an opportunity for older sailors to
return to sailing in this class. It is planned to held this event in future years as well,
which is an attempt to further promote sailing in the Šljuka/Snipe class in
Croatia, the organizers said.
Another regatta was held also in the period from November 11
to 12 - the ACI Optimist Cup, where there were 58 sailors in the Optimist class.
The president of the club, Mladen Babac, enthusiastically
points out: "It is wonderful to see how regattas like this contribute to
the promotion of our region and once again attract guests who take with them
special memories of the Opatija Riviera. All this takes place in the spirit of
healthy sports competition."
The third held regatta was Susak for two and Susak for
crews, which was held from November 24 to 26.
The Susak regatta for two was launched in 2019. in order to
popularize sailing in the so-called short-handed variants, i.e. navigational
sailing for two on cruiser-type sailboats.
The regatta takes place on the route
Ičići-Susak Island-Ičići.
The regatta is of international character, and in addition
to Croatian crew members, Slovenian, Czech, Russian and Austrian crew members
are also present.
The weather conditions during November ensure that the
regatta is very attractive, with a touch of adventure, which attracts
experienced sailors who are ready to deal with the cold, wind, lack of sleep,
and other surprises that await them during sailing.
Therefore, it is not surprising that this year, due to
unfavorable weather conditions, the start of the regatta was delayed by 26
hours, so instead of Friday, it started on Saturday.
The regatta was sailed on a modified route around the island
of Unija, and the wind speed of 25-30 knots set a challenging task for brave
sailors. The Susak regatta for two and for the crews stands as a
testimony of the perseverance and passion of sailors who find triumph in the
midst of challenges.
