GUIDED WALKS TROUGH IČIĆI DURING MAY

GUIDED WALKS TROUGH IČIĆI DURING MAY
As a prelude to this year's celebration of the 30th anniversary of its establishment, the Tourist Board of Ičići organized weekly guided walks during the month of May.

Although May was not kind to us and the weather constantly kept us in suspense, we did not waver and the planned walks took place.

The walks were planed as a sequel of the tourist booklet IČIĆI – Insights Into the Past, which was published by the tourist board in 2023. The booklet itself contains short stories from the history of the place, historic villas, the development of tourism and hospitality, the life of the locals and the love they have woven into the development of Ičići.

The idea of the tourist board was for guests to get to know the history of Ičići through professional, guided walks around the place.

Participation was free of charge, Tivoli Park was chosen as the meeting place, since it can be considered a sort of beginning of catering and hospitality in Ičići, as it housed a Viennese cafe and a restaurant. After the story about the park, the Tivoli guesthouse and the mysterious stone that is placed in the park, next stop was the memorial board of Mr. Morgen, famous Croatian singer.

The walk continued in ACA MARINA Opatija with a story about its the construction, its significance for the place and the statue of the Wind Rose, which is located in the marina itself.

The story about Villa Emma, which we know today as Villa Münz, as well as the other villas located in Ičići was also mentioned.

Passing along the beach, guest could learn about the hospital for lung diseases, which has been demolished to become the site of a new hotel complex that is beeing bulit today.
Villa Rosa was also mentioned as potentially the oldest villa in this area, according to stories it was built between 1836 and 1840, which, if confirmed as an accurate statement, would make it even older than Opatija's Villa Angiolina.

The Ičićan anchors are an unavoidable part of the Ičićan story, so the visitors could also hear something about them.

Lučica, well-known to everyone, became the location of the new mural in honor of the place, the scene of the story about Captain Igor Žiganto, the vault of 35,000 shells, Vila Bamba, the poet Zvane Črnja, Lučica itself and its significance in the history of this small coastal town.

If you missed our walks and we managed to interest you in the world of untold stories about Ičići, you can pick up your copy of the booklet at our tourist office.

This year's May walks in Ičići are the beginning of a historical story about Ičići, which will certainly see its continuation in the near future.

The Tourist Board of Ičići would like to thank everyone who joined us and participated in this year's edition of historical walks in Ičići.
